Species: Nallini

Species: Nallini

Natives of the distant continent of Pash, these cat-like people are a rare view in most of human lands.

Names

Names of both nations roughly resemble a mix of Greek and Scandinavian languages, and usually have some prideful meaning behind them. Nallini in international ports can give their children exotic names from other cultures.

Appearance

Nallini are people who remind antropomorphic cats with triangle ears and small horns. Their long thin tails end with a long brush of hair. Their bodies are covered with fur and can have mane or human-like hair. There are two races total, as described below.

Larid are natives to the warm South-West of Pash. They are slender and well-groomed, as their culture is heavily centered on making impressions. They have very short fur which is usually black and iridescent like magpie’s wing. It is very common for them to have big splotches of white scattered all around their body, like spots of a cow. Their eyes are blue, grey, or bright green, and lips are bright pink.
Larid consider themselves the source of all knowledge and creations on Pash (and maybe in the world). Wizardry is the second most popular career among the ones who can pay for it, and Larid are very skilled with Force and Psyonic magic. They look down upon simplistic and unedicated (as they think) Madigs, seeing nothing else in them but animalistic brutes.
Madig, warriors of the North-East, indeed do look animalistic; even their females are more feral than Larid. They are colored in shades of brown, and their skin and lips are dark, while eyes are bright yellow, like of a wolf or an eagle. Long, sharp fangs and fur becoming messy at any sign of wind give them ruffian look. However, Larid’s prejudice couldn’t be more wrong. Madigs are clever and wise, they are skilled healers, woodworkers and hunters. Maybe they have no fancy stone palaces or enormous libraries, but their folklore is rich, and every parent teach their cubs to read, count and write, exceeding in number of reading children the snobbish Laridi.
Madigs are skilled warriors and value both strength and tactic. The best way to befriend a Madig is to have a brawl with them.

Males of Madig look so different from females one may take them for two separate species. Males are much bigger and more muscular, their fur is thicker and gathers into lion-like mane on their heads and shoulders. Their faces are more feral, and fangs are longer. Females are smaller and more slender, more agile. Their mane is soft and very short, and on the head they have long hair.

Laridi have this dimorphism too, but to a lesser degree. Both genders have very short fur and long hair, and the size difference if less drastic.

The world of smells

Smell plays a very important role in Nallini society. By smell they find mates and detect diseases, by caring for their smell they show and detect status and health. Like dogs, they can track prey. Perfume industry both on the South and the North of Pash is thriving, and some say it is even bigger than the black market. But be careful with Nallini perfume, as Nallini’s taste in aromas is quite exotic.

Family

Nallini live in small tightly connected families consisting of the married couple and their children. While elder children leave their home as soon as they can, the youngest child of the family stays with their elderly parents, caring for them and looking after the house.

It takes a lot of time to Nallini to find their mate, sometimes looking for several decades. Once married, however, the pair won’t leave each other’s side unless one of them dies. In rare cases (usually after devastating wars) males can have two wives, provided they are not against such an alliance.

Nallini Common Traits

Age

Cat people mature at the same rate as humans and live just as long. They stay young for most of their lives, and then rapidly grow old after the age of 60, getting just as old and sick at the age of 75 as any human would be.

Size

Male Madigs are very big and bulky, they can often be as tall as 6’8». Larid are smaller and more slender, and rarely exceed 6′. Females of both nations range between 4’8» and 5’10». Your size is Medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Keen Smell

You have advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on smell.

Laridi Traits

Ability Score Increase

Your Intelligence score increases by 2, and your Charisma or Wisdom (your choice) score increases by 1.

Minor Telekinesis. Laridi share strong magical connection to the world around them, and they can manipulate objects at a distance.

As an action, you can attempt to exert your will on one object that weighs no more than 10 pounds that you can see within 30 feet.

If your target is an item being worn or carried by a creature, make a Wisdom or Intelligence (your choice) ability check contested by the creature’s Strength check. If you win the contest, you may move the carried object up to 10 feet in any direction.

If your target is an unattended object, you can move that object up to 10 feet in any direction.

Instead of moving an object, you can choose to exert fine control on an object telekinetically, such as manipulating a simple tool, opening a door or a container, stowing, or retrieving an item from an open container, or pouring the contents from a vial.

Stand Your Ground. You can use your telekinetic abilities to anchor yourself in your position. When you are subjected to an effect forcing you to move (such as Telekinesis, Gust of Wind or shoving) or land prone (like Earthquake) you add your Intelligence modifier to the saving throw. This does not affect being moved as a result of bending your will or charming you.

Powerful Mind. When you cast a spell dealing Psychic or Force damage, or a telekinetic spell, you treat your spellcasting ability modifier as 1 point higher.
